Is this GIF cropper really free?

How do I crop a GIF?
Open your GIF, drag the corners or edges of the box until only the part you want to keep is inside, press Crop GIF and download the result. You can press Play first to check how it looks.
What is the difference between cropping and trimming a GIF?
Cropping removes the edges of the picture, so it changes the frame and the size. Trimming changes how long the animation lasts by cutting frames from the start or the end. This tool only crops. To shorten, speed up or rotate a GIF, use the full GIF editor on the home page.
Does cropping a GIF lower its quality?
The picture inside the box is not resized. A GIF can only use 256 colors per frame, though, so the file is encoded again and very smooth gradients may look slightly different. GIFs wider than 480 pixels are scaled down to 480 pixels wide when they open, so the result is never wider than that.
Can I crop a GIF to a square?
Yes. Draw a box with the same width and height. The crop size shown on screen lets you match the pixels while you drag.
Will the cropped GIF still loop?
Yes. The cropped GIF loops forever, and every frame keeps its original timing.
Are my GIFs uploaded anywhere?
No. Your files stay on your device and are never uploaded to a server. That also means a refresh or closing the tab discards your work, which is why we warn you before you leave with a GIF open.
Is there a limit on how long the GIF can be?
Up to the first 300 frames are used. If your GIF is longer, shorten it first with the full GIF editor on the home page.
Can I crop a GIF on iPhone, Android or a tablet?
Yes. The tool works in the browser on phones and tablets, and the controls are sized for touch. Drag with your finger on the picture to draw or resize the box.
Can I crop a video or another type of image?
This tool only opens GIF files. If you have a video, the full GIF editor on the home page can turn it into a GIF and crop it.
