Screen Record to GIF

Record your screen and save it as a GIF

Choose a screen, a window or a browser tab to record. Nothing leaves your device.

Screen Record to GIF Online: Turn Your Screen into a GIF

This is a free online screen recorder that saves your recording as a GIF. Press Start recording, choose a screen, a window or a browser tab, do what you want to show, then stop and download the GIF. There is no account to create, no watermark on the result and nothing to install.

People record their screen as a GIF to show a bug, explain a few clicks in a tutorial, share a quick demo in a chat or add a short animation to documentation. If you also need to crop, flip, loop or trim the GIF afterwards, our full GIF editor on the home page does that too.

Screen Record to GIF Features

A screen recorder that does one job and does it well.

  • Record a screen, a window or a tab: Your browser asks what to share, so you pick exactly what ends up in the GIF.
  • Preview before you save: When you stop, the recording plays back on the page so you can check it before you create the file.
  • Change the speed: Play the recording from 0.25x to 4x and the GIF is created at the speed you chose.
  • HD quality: Recordings are captured up to 1280 pixels wide with sharp scaling and fine color matching, so text and interfaces stay readable.
  • Up to 15 seconds: The recording stops by itself after 15 seconds, which keeps the HD GIF at a size you can still send and upload.
  • No watermark, no sign-up: You do not need an account, and the GIF downloads clean, without a watermark.
  • Private by design: Your screen is never uploaded. The recording is made and turned into a GIF on your device, and closing the tab clears everything.
  • Made for computers: Screen recording is a computer feature in most browsers. The page itself is responsive and touch friendly, but phones and tablets usually cannot share their screen from a web page.

Frequently asked questions

Is this screen recorder really free?

Yes. You do not need an account, there is no watermark on your GIF and there are no hidden limits to unlock. Record your screen, choose a speed and download the result.

How do I record my screen as a GIF?

Press Start recording, choose what to share in your browser, do what you want to show, press Stop recording and then Create GIF.

Is my screen uploaded anywhere?

No. The recording is made in your browser and turned into a GIF on your device. Nothing is sent to a server. That also means a refresh or closing the tab discards the recording, which is why we warn you before you leave with one open.

How long can the recording be?

Up to 15 seconds, or 150 frames, whichever comes first. The recording then stops by itself and opens as a preview. For longer recordings, make several GIFs.

Why is my GIF smaller than my screen?

Recordings wider than 1280 pixels (HD) are scaled down. A GIF stores every frame as a full picture, so a full-size screen recording would make a very large file.

Can I record sound?

No. GIF files cannot contain sound, so only the picture is recorded.

Does it work on a phone or tablet?

The page works on any screen and its controls are built for touch, but most phone and tablet browsers do not let a web page record the screen. Use a computer with Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari to record.

Why does my browser ask for permission?

Browsers always ask before a page can see your screen, and show an indicator while it is shared. Press Stop recording, or the Stop sharing button of your browser, to end it at any time.
